Antiques

I love antiques of all kinds, but especially furniture! Problem is.......antique furniture is very expensive! I'm very lucky though because I have 3 pieces of antique furniture that are family heirlooms! This is one of those pieces and I just had it restored-the poor thing was weighted down under who knows how many layers of paint and needed new upholstery badly.
This is my great-grandmother's rocking chair. We always called it a "platform rocker" but the man at the furniture restoration place called it a "carpet rocker." I remember sitting in it for hours on end when it was at my grandmother's house (it was in her kitchen). I had it all stripped and reupholstered and love how it came out! I took some detail pictures so you can see all the neat wooden details on it, which I never paid much attention to before because they were buried under paint!
I've done some research on the internet on carpet rockers but it's pretty impossible to say exactly when this was made. There are no markings or labels on it. It's funny when I sit in it now because it sits very close to the floor and is very narrow-people were much smaller 50 years ago! I'm so glad I have it and I think of my great-grandmother and grandmother when I sit and rock in it :)

Nana's garden

This was inspired by my mother-in-law's garden this summer (Patrick calls her Nana). Her garden was sooooo pretty this year! Patrick liked to go over there in June and pick the raspberries. I used a photo display from 7 Gypsies (love that company!) and the flowers are from Prima (love them too)!

Gratitude Journal

Bought this darling kit from My Craft Channel-it was one of their "special buys!" Beautiful paper, a chipboard album and other embellishments from Teresa Collins. I made a gratitude journal out of it. I've been kind of down lately and figure it's due to adjusting to our move (we moved to Erie, PA from IN over the summer) and not working right now. I've learned in the past that when I get down I need to focus on gratitude. So my plan is to fill in my gratitude journal and look at it when I get blue. I have so much I am grateful for! Plus just looking at this darling journal and beautiful papers makes me feel happier :) I'll post the pages soon!

Fabric collage

I"m taking an online course right now at My Creative Classroom called "Exploring Mixed Media" that is taught by Shirley Pando. Our first assignment was to do a fabric collage. I was nervous at first because I've never used fabric before in a collage but found I really like using it (oh great, a new thing for me to get addicted to :) I mounted this on a cardboard stand and am going to put it by my bedside!

Four seasons mixed media canvases

I made these 4 canvases representing all the seasons as an entry for an art auction at my husband's employer, St. Vincent Healthcare Center, to benefit the American Heart Association.

Christmas in July

I'm a little late in posting these! Every July I get Christmas fever and make something "christmasy"! This year the mood to make Christmas cards hit me!

Brave girls

I found this awesome new site called "Brave girls club" recently. Here is a short poem I found there that really spoke to me:
She was an artist.
She decided to try new things.
She could see the possibilities.
She let her inner artist explore.
She decided to let go.
She started to grow.
She let her hair down.
She decided to create art.

More mixed media wall art

Valentine

This is a valentine I made for my husband on a ceramic tile. I used all kinds of mixed media techniques with it. The little heart is chipboard underneath! I used plaster strips over it, let it dry and then painted it.

"home" display

This is a photo display case sold by 7 gypsies that I embellished and hung in my art room!

Vintage receipt holder

This is a product from 7 gypsies (love that company)! I embellished it and hung it in my art room!

Banners

Banners are all the rage now! This is my first one and I have to admit I am officially addicted :) This is a valentine one I made that says "Be Mine." I used this gorgeous new paper from Making Memories called J'tadore.

Tags

These are some tags I made when I started learning mixed media techniques. The tags are wooden and you put them on a rod iron tree. I still have more tags to make before I can fill the tree but thought I would post the tags I 've made so far. I was really happy with how these came out!
