I must confess...............I've been hit by the art journaling bug! fun, fun! I use my art journal to practice new techniques. The journal I use is the "mixed media album" from Prima! Here is what I have done so far.

Every July I have my own personal "Christmas in July" day and usually make a few Christmas cards! Here's what I made this year!

Mixed media banner

This is a metal banner I found at Hobby Lobby for 1.40 on clearance!  I gessoed over it then did my mixed media techniques on it.  I'm going to hang it on my bedroom wall (when that room is finally painted)!

Happiness mixed media piece

A mixed media piece inspired by spring using techniques taught by Christy Tomlinson! This piece makes me happy when I look at it and I think I'm going to hang it in my office at work!

Antiques

I love antiques of all kinds, but especially furniture! Problem is.......antique furniture is very expensive! I'm very lucky though because I have 3 pieces of antique furniture that are family heirlooms! This is one of those pieces and I just had it restored-the poor thing was weighted down under who knows how many layers of paint and needed new upholstery badly.

This is my great-grandmother's rocking chair. We always called it a "platform rocker" but the man at the furniture restoration place called it a "carpet rocker." I remember sitting in it for hours on end when it was at my grandmother's house (it was in her kitchen). I had it all stripped and reupholstered and love how it came out! I took some detail pictures so you can see all the neat wooden details on it, which I never paid much attention to before because they were buried under paint!

I've done some research on the internet on carpet rockers but it's pretty impossible to say exactly when this was made. There are no markings or labels on it. It's funny when I sit in it now because it sits very close to the floor and is very narrow-people were much smaller 50 years ago! I'm so glad I have it and I think of my great-grandmother and grandmother when I sit and rock in it :)

Nana's garden

This was inspired by my mother-in-law's garden this summer (Patrick calls her Nana). Her garden was sooooo pretty this year! Patrick liked to go over there in June and pick the raspberries. I used a photo display from 7 Gypsies (love that company!) and the flowers are from Prima (love them too)!

Here are the inside pages of my gratitude journal! I was so happy with how this came out! I had a lot left over too from the kit.......hmmmm.........may have to make a mixed media piece from the leftovers!
